GIBBONS PRESCHOOL

BOTTLE DRIVE

Building a sustainable future is something that is very important to us at Gibbons preschool. We take part in this every class by having a recycling container available for students to use for their renewable plastics. Our preschoolers are now able to spot the difference in which items from their lunch are recyclable. It is so important to lay the foundations for this early so that they have the best possible futures later. We decided to take this one step further and organized a bottle drive. We had help from everyone, including our students. Our community came together and helped us collect bottles so that we could raise money for our preschool. Our volunteers helped sort the bottles at the recycling depot. We were able to raise money to help us buy a new table and chairs and we are even looking into how to recycle the old one.

Our students had a lot of fun learning that they could turn old juice boxes and yogurt containers into new things and earn money while doing so. They were excited to go home and ask their parents to save their recyclable bottles for our bottle drive. It was great to see the excitement on their faces when our community showed up to support us. The students were happy when they learned that recycling old bottles and plastics also helps save animals in the ocean and in the wild because instead of ending up in landfills, our recyclables can be made into new things. That sounds like a win win for everybody.
