ST. MARIA GORETTI | GRADE 1
CLEAN-UP EVENT
Throughout the 2023/24 school year, the Grade One students from St. Maria Goretti School embarked on transformative community walks that stirred our souls and ignited a passion for caring for our planet. Our students eagerly participated in these walks to explore the wonders of our community and to deepen our connection to the land that sustains us.
Â
At the start of each walk, our young learners listened intently to our heartfelt student-generated land acknowledgement, gaining a deeper appreciation for the animals that inhabit our river valley. With dedication and enthusiasm, our students crafted bird feeders during the winter months, hung them in the trees, and diligently collected litter to make our world a more vibrant and healthy place.
Â
Through these activities, the students discovered the profound impact of their actions on the environment. They realized that by picking up litter, they were not only keeping our community clean, but also safeguarding the river and the ocean from pollution that could harm marine life. They embraced their role as stewards of the earth, understanding that every small act of kindness and care contributes to the preservation of our precious home.
Â
A visit to the Edmonton Valley Zoo further solidified our students’ commitment to protecting our planet. It instilled in them a sense of purpose and a deep understanding of why it is crucial to nurture and safeguard the Earth, along with all the plants and animals that call it home. The experience inspired our students to become passionate advocates for conservation and environmental stewardship, empowering them to make a positive impact on our world.
