REVITALIZATION

SUPPORT THE REVITALIZATION

We often hear it said that television is now the main medium for teaching children about wildlife. It is not difficult to argue with this proposition, but it cannot compete with getting closer to the real thing.

A visit to the zoo creates a lasting impression. Who could forget a Red Panda baby pouncing on her Mom as she walks past, or the way a prairie dog wriggles its nose while it chews, or the playfulness of a pair of otters? A face-to-face encounter with a Nubian Goat is unlike anything that television could ever offer. Only by getting up close do you realize just how large an elephant is, just how agile monkeys are, just how colorful the parrots are. There is something about a solid, three-dimensional living, moving animal, with all its smells and sounds that imprint upon the mind. For children, the distinction is even more emphatic. Something about the experience that children have when they see a live animal, in the wild or a zoo, cannot be replaced by other teaching aids. This is the key to the powerful educational potential of good zoos.

When you teach a child to be kind to animals, you help pave the way to a brighter future for all living beings. Animals benefit because the next generation has learned to treat them with respect and compassion, reducing instances of animal cruelty. Children benefit because learning about compassion and empathy early in life builds moral character, reduces violence, and builds a sense of empowerment and responsibility. And society as a whole benefits when its members are more caring towards each other and the animals who live among us.

Thank you for your interest in helping support the revitalization of the Edmonton Valley Zoo.

ADOPT AN EXHIBIT

The Valley Zoo Development Society’s Adopt an Exhibit Program inspires the community to improve and enrich the lives of the animals in the Edmonton Valley Zoo’s care. This important program provides vital funding for improved habitats and enrichment materials. With opportunities ranging from $500 to $10,000, adopting an exhibit is easy and can be done as an individual, as a gift, in memory of a loved one, or as a business. Adopting an exhibit allows you, or your business, to become a catalyst in our community, and encourages all patrons to also become strong stewards for animal welfare and environmental conservation.

Our adoption plans are listed below! Keep scrolling to find the perfect plan for you.

“LEAF” A LEGACY

The Edmonton Valley Zoo has been the scene of many fond memories for countless families and many generations. Now, you can give these memories permanent recognition, and help support the revitalization of the Edmonton Valley Zoo, by having your name or the name of a loved one, engraved on a leave on our Eterni-tree.

The “Leaf-a-Legacy” program is the cornerstone of our Public Capital Campaign and a funding source for Nature’s Wild Backyard – the newest phase of development at the Edmonton Valley Zoo. By purchasing a leaf, you help guarantee that future generations will be able to visit “Nature’s Wild Backyard” and see your commitment to helping build, not only our zoo but our community.

The Eterni-tree and the “Leaf a Legacy” program is our creative equivalent to many organizations “buy a brick” or “name on a wall” fundraisers.

The tree is made from wrought iron with stainless steel leaves. Each tree has 400 leaves, which are available to the public for a $1,000 donation. We currently have one tree on site. Our goal is to have five of these beautiful trees located throughout the property, for a fundraising total of $2 million dollars.

Donation options for a leaf include:

$30 a month for 36 months (3 years)
$45 a month for 24 months (2 years)
$90 a month for 12 months (1 year)
$1,000 one time payment

Thank you for “leaf-ing” a lasting legacy and helping support the revitalization of the Edmonton Valley Zoo.

HELP BUILD OUR ZOO!

It is through today’s zoos that future generations will come to a greater understanding of the human impact on the natural world and be motivated to preserve it and reverse the damage already done.
